SARA KONING

BIO
In my work I am looking for a contemporary answer to questions and promises of the past. My own past, or that of other people I take interest in. My recent work seems to be a reminder of the Gothic period in art, and the protagonists that arise from my paint seem to be distant relatives of those immortal Icons. All of my paintings ask questions to the faith from which they derived, Christianity. By the time I was old enough to go to school, I was read to from the Bible every morning; stories about the crucifixion and other atrocities were included. Each day began with a group prayer. I was not brought up very religiously, but an interest in religion was defiantly awakened at school.

"What is heaven like?” I asked a devout classmate.
"It is very beautiful there, you can spend the entire day horseback riding."

SERA WALKER

BIO

Through my artistic practice I aim to highlight the extraordinary patterns that appear to run through and connect diverse natural forms. I want to remove the familiarity of these natural objects and expose the intricate patterns and structures that are concealed within them. The works are initially made using traditional photographic techniques that create a direct connection between the object and the image. The imprecision of these methods creates unexpected results and a space for the viewer’s imagination. By doing this, I seek to evoke a sense of wonderment in the viewer and inspire a way of looking at these patterns that we may once, as children, have found so fascinating.
